چکیده

We evaluate the transport of three-dimensional chemical transport models in the upper tropo-sphere and lower stratosphere applying observed distributions of CO 2 and SF 6. The data consist of high-resolution in-situ observations, obtained during all seasons at subtropical, middle and high latitudes over Western Europe within the SPURT (Spurenstofftransport in der Tropopausen-5 region) project (2001-2003). We show that the combination of the two passive tracers SF 6 and CO 2 with their different tropospheric characteristics and the propagation of the temporal trends of these two gases into the lower stratosphere is a powerful diagnostic for evaluation of model transport. The model evaluation shows that all models are able to capture the general features in the 10 tracer distributions including the vertical and horizontal propagation of the CO 2 seasonal cycle. However, the modeled CO 2 cycles are a few months out of phase in the lowermost stratosphere due to tropospheric mixing. Two models show a too strong Brewer-Dobson circulation causing an overestimation of the tracers in the lowermost stratosphere during winter and spring. One model displays a too strong tropical isolation leading to an underestimation of the tracers in the 15 lowermost stratosphere during winter. All models suffer to some extend from diffusion and/or too strong mixing across the tropopause. In addition, the models show too weak vertical upward transport into the upper troposphere during the boreal summer. Sensitivity studies show that our initial conditions and boundary constraints are realistic and that a horizontal resolution higher than 2 degrees and an increase of the meteorology update fre-20 quency (from 6 to 3-hourly) have negligible impact on the modeled CO 2 and SF 6 distributions.

Investigating Characteristics of N2, CO2 and CF3I in Contrast to High Current Arcs in Circuit Breakers to Choose a Suitable Substitute for SF6

Specific and sensitive operation of circuit breakers makes an individual position for them in power networks. Circuit breakers are at the central gravity of variations and execution operations. Therefore, an optimum operation is the main reason to investigate about new gases to be used in MV and HV circuit breakers instead of SF6. The arc process has enormous complexity because of hydrodynamic ...

Observationally derived transport diagnostics for the lowermost stratosphere and their application to the GMI chemistry and transport model

Transport from the surface to the lowermost stratosphere (LMS) can occur on timescales of a few months or less, making it possible for short-lived tropospheric pollutants to influence stratospheric composition and chemistry. Models used to study this influence must demonstrate the credibility of their chemistry and transport in the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere (UT/LS). Data sets fro...

The association of socioeconomic status of family and living region with self-rated health and life satisfaction in children and adolescents: The CASPIAN-IV study

Background: Socioeconomic status (SES) is a major determinant of health inequality in children and adolescents. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association of SES of family and living region with self-rated health (SRH) and life satisfaction (LS) among children and adolescents.   Methods: This study was a part of the fourth survey of a national surveillance program, which was ...

کاربرد مدل رقومی ارتفاع به منظور محاسبه ی عامل توپوگرافی در مدل USLE با استفاده از تکنیک زمین آمار در منطقه رشکان ارومیه

Topographic factor is an important factor of computer models of USLE family due to the high sensitivity of model results to its variation and complicated effects of topography on soil erosion. Moore and Wilson (1992) have introduced a well-known method to compute LS factor of RUSLE model using digital elevation model (DEM).The objective of this study was to determine the proper cell size of DEM...

Modeling of Pressure Dependence of Interfacial Tension Behaviors of Supercritical CO2 + Crude Oil Systems Using a Basic Parachor Expression

Parachor based expressions (basic and mechanistic) are often used to model the experimentally observed pressure dependence of interfacial tension (IFT) behaviors of complex supercritical carbon dioxide (sc-CO2) and crude oil mixtures at elevated temperatures. However, such modeling requires various input data (e.g. compositions and densities of the equilibrium liquid and vapor phases, and molec...
